Equestrian section
Five SEDA competitors competed in the Equestrian section at the 12th Australian Masters Games held from 19th -21st February 2009. Naomi Grey, Natalie Goldsworthy, Benni Rosman, Trevor Roulston and Pam Shepherd all made the trip to Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre and all five competitors were successful and brought home medals from their sections.
The competition consisted of dressage events on the Thursday and Friday, show horse events on the Thursday, showjumping on the Friday, and combined training and working horse events on the Saturday. Each competitor could enter up to 3 sections. By the end of the competition, all riders were exhausted but elated at their success.
Naomi, Benni and Natalie all competed in the 30-39 years age group, Trevor competed in the 40-49 years age group, and Pam competed in the 50-59 years age group.
Benni Rosman and her horse Miss Bombastic were extremely successful throughout the competition winning 3 gold medals in the 90cm show jumping section, a gold in the elementary dressage section as well as a bronze medal overall for the elementary dressage, and a silver medal in the combined training (dressage test 2.4 and 90cm showjumping).
Naomi and her horse My Vanitfaire were also extremely successful throughout the competition and won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in level 5 of the show horse section, and 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the open working horse section. They also competed in the preliminary dressage section where they placed 8th overall.
Natalie Goldsworthy and her horse Finn won a silver medal and a bronze medal in the 90cm showjumping section. They also competed in the preliminary dressage section where they placed 4th overall, and the combined training section (dressage test 2.4 and 90cm showjumping) in which they placed 4th.
Trevor Roulston and his horse Crystal won a gold medal, a silver medal, and a bronze medal in the 1.05m show jumping section, and a bronze medal in the combined training (dressage test 2.4 and 90cm showjumping). They also competed in the preliminary dressage section division B where they placed 7th overall.
Pam Shepherd rode 2 horses, Strawbs and Sammy throughout the competition. With Strawbs she competed in the novice dressage section gaining a bronze medal overall. With Sammy she competed in the preliminary dressage section, the 60cm showjumping, and the combined training (dressage test 1.3 and 45cm showjumping). Unfortunately in the dressage section, 1.1 test Sammy trotted straight up the centre line and instead of turning right at C they jumped out of the arena at C right in front of the judges car so they were eliminated after only getting to trot up the centre line at the beginning of the test!
